As a transfer student, you need to adapt
in a quick manner on the expectations from the professors at the university. You
have to leave behind your previous study habits, and learn new ones. This was
difficult for me because I had created a specific habit that was made me excel, but when I got to the University of Florida, my study habits were failures. This is my second semester at the University of Florida, and
my first semester was a complete failure, but I had to learn how to pick myself
up and adapt rapidly this semester. There were some setbacks this semester as
well, but I am sharing this story to show that anyone can can pick themselves up
and succeed.
This semester I am taking
Business Finance and Business Statistics. Two difficult courses. In the beginning
I chose to do study groups with other peers, but to no avail. The study groups
were not helpful in my case because I tend to do better when I study on my own.
Then I tried tutoring at StudyEdge, and it honestly changed my study habits
completely. I can honestly say that it has helped me improve how I study for my
business courses, and how I can succeed at this university.
From my experiences I learned that
being your biggest critic is not beneficial to your morale, and you should
allow yourself to try new things. As a perfectionist, I also thought that my
own study habits were working just fine, but they were not, and realizing it
allowed me to excel as a student and as an individual.
Overall, failure is the inability to
perform an action up to your own standards. In the beginning it was difficult to
handle failure properly. I became emotional, and I became depressed. Then I
realized that I didn’t want to disappoint myself, and that I needed to be a
strong individual to be able to excel and be content with my achievements and
my performance.

Hey Ana. First, congratulations on being able to adapt and rework your strategy so you can succeed. A lot of times that really hard to do, especially with any sort of speed, because we tend to think that the old way is the best way. I think the key to dealing with failure is looking at it as a learning experience, as long as you learn something and work towards not making the mistake again it was not a complete loss. Good luck, here's a link to mine http://thegarrick.blogspot.com/2016/04/celebrating-failure.html
ReplyDeleteThank you. thank you for actually taking some considerable time to write this. I'm jealous of your writing style, it seems so natural and elegant..
ReplyDeleteSecond, I love your blog. The background is my favorite. Read is one of my favorite things to do when I'm bored.
While i disagree that "failure is the key to success" I do see your point. I think the way you respond to failure determines how successful you will be. Failure is inevitable, but some people let it beat them down. The truly successful take that experience and build upn it. They don't let it beat them down, they use it to grow.
Thanks for the read
